June 2001
Approximately 75 aspiring middle school, high school and college students and their parents or chaperones enjoyed a day of exciting activities at the Summer Journalism Visitation held at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications.

This year's hot topic was "Convergence."  Hands-on workshops, revolving around a search and seizure simulation presented to students, were held for newspaper, television, and online reporting.

Professionals participated from the St. Petersburg Times, Ocala Star-Banner, The Gainesville Sun, Manatee Herald-Tribune, WCJB TV, Magic 101 Radio, Florida A&M University and the University of Florida. Parents attended sessions on scholarships and financial aid.

Role Models Foundation, The Knight Division at the College of Journalism and Communications, the Ocala Star-Banner and the Alachua/Bradford/Santa Fe Community College College~Career Tech Prep Consortium were co-sponsors.  Role Models Today online publication youth panel members and parents attend planning sessions the following morning.
