Approximately
75 aspiring middle school, high school and college students and
their parents or chaperones enjoyed a day of exciting activities
at the Summer Journalism Visitation held at the University of Florida
College of Journalism and Communications.
This year's hot topic was "Convergence."
Hands-on workshops, revolving around a search and seizure simulation
presented to students, were held for newspaper, television, and
online reporting.
Professionals
participated from the St. Petersburg Times, Ocala Star-Banner,
The Gainesville Sun, Manatee Herald-Tribune, WCJB TV, Magic
101 Radio, Florida A&M University and the University of Florida.
Parents attended sessions on scholarships and financial aid.
Role Models Foundation, The Knight
Division at the College of Journalism and Communications, the Ocala
Star-Banner and the Alachua/Bradford/Santa Fe Community
College College~Career Tech Prep Consortium were co-sponsors.
Role Models Today online publication youth panel members
and parents attend planning sessions the following morning.
