June
2000 Approximately 140 Florida youth and their parents arrived at the University of Florida campus on June 24, 2000 for a day of exciting activities. Events included a media career professional panel; visual, print, and broadcast journalism interactive workshops; and an elementary and middle school print journalism workshop. Parents attended a financial aide/scholarships information session. A highlight was the "mock press conference" with Brad Rogers, Ocala Star-Banner editorial page editor and George Ramirez, sports anchor for Sunshine Network. The event was sponsored by Role Models Foundation, Ocala Star-Banner, The Knight Center at University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications and Alachua/Bradford Tech Prep Consortium. RMT youth panel members and parents also attended on online magazine planning session the following morning, led by St. Petersburg Times Columnist Bill Maxwell.
