Paul
Revere designed the school's seal. John
Hancock signed its Act of Incorporation.
President George Washington addressed
students in 1789.
Now
attending her first year at the prestigious
Philips Academy at Andover, Mitchell offers
her thoughts about school:
As
a student, it is important to form some
understanding of why you're in school.
Your understanding should be a culmination
of reasons, ranging from realizing dreams
to expanding knowledge to broadening
capabilities. With this understanding
at the nucleus of the school day, a
student must take steps to preserve
his or her purpose for attending school.
As
a student myself, I know that school
allows me deep reflection, it improves
my writing and people skills and it
prepares me to confront glorious dreams
that I otherwise would not be ready
for. I walk in the classroom with these
reasons dancing in my head. Consequently,
I am focused and prepared in class,
I take each assignment seriously and
I always demand to know more. I am a
good student because I know that each
moment spent learning is a moment spent
growing. Eventually, the invested time
will result in wonderful things-and
that's an amazing assurance spinning
in my head.
