This War Was Not Right

The war with Iraq is not really a war. Congress has to declare war, and our Congress never did that. We have declared hostility towards Iraq because of what happened on September 11, among many other things. This, however, is no reason to murder innocent women and children.
I was just a few miles away from the World Trade Center on September 11. I was living in Brooklyn, New York, at the time. When I looked out of the window at my school, I could see the towers burn. My Boy Scout troop leader was killed in the attacks, and naturally his death angered me very much because he was a very kind and good person, but I still see no reason for the senseless acts of aggression in Iraq. People in the United States of America have come together in this trying time, but we have not come together fully, because here in the U.S. we are killing Iraqis because of their background.
Americans need to band together and tell George Bush to remove his troops from Iraq because troops are getting killed everyday—someone’s brother or sister, husband or wife, father or mother. This war is tearing apart families and that shouldn’t be allowed.
This war is unethical and built on oil and a hatred for Saddam Hussein. George Bush has said that the reason for this war was that Iraq was a threat, that it had weapons of mass destruction. However, that after many inspections, no weapons of mass destruction have been found. Then, George Bush and other politicians changed their reason for wanting to go to war with Iraq. They started presenting Saddam Hussein as a cruel dictator who had to be stopped at all cost. Even after George Bush got no support from the United States’ allies, he still plunged America into war by sending troops into Iraq, costing other American citizens to pay more on their taxes.
George Bush boasted that Iraqi soldiers would give up without a fight, and he was very wrong. This war was not quick as he said it would be. It has now taken the better part of two years. Even after the capture of Saddam Hussein, which George Bush said would mark the end of the war, American troops are still in Iraqi territory, and Americans are paying for it. Even worse, innocent people and soldiers with families are paying with their lives. We, the American people, should come together and tell George Bush that this war was not right. These people’s lives should not be played with and put in danger for absolutely no reason. This, I am sad to say, is exactly what George Bush is doing. |
