Basketball Star Profiles: Kidd, Bryant and Webber
By Joshua Jones, 8th grade

October 3, 2002

Jason Kidd, Kobe Bryant, and Chris Webber. The New Jersey Nets, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Sacramento Kings. These players and teams participated in the 2002 NBA Final Four Competition. Different players, different teams, yet all great athletes.

Jason Kidd is a 6'4", 212-pound guard for the New Jersey Nets. He was born on March 23, 1973, in San Francisco, California, and graduated from the University of California. Kidd was only the fourth player to lead the league in assists for three straight seasons.

In Orlando, on April 11th of this year, Kidd tied a career high with 16 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals in only 43 minutes. Jairah, a thirteen-year-old student at West Port Middle School says, "Jason Kidd is a good point guard, dishes the ball well, and has an awesome jumpshot." With his great talent, Kidd will surely remain as one of the NBA's top players.

The Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant is a 6'7", 210-pound guard, who was born on September 23, 1978, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After Bryant graduated from Lower Merion High School, he was drafted into the NBA. Bryant became the youngest All-star in NBA history. He made his career high of 40 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists defeating the Sacramento Kings on March 12, 2000. "Kobe Bryant is a very talented player, with great sportsmanship and will remain in the NBA for a long time," states Rriauna, an eighth grade student at Howard Middle School.

A 6'10", 245-pound forward for the Sacramento Kings, Chris Webber, was born on March 1, 1973, in Detroit, Michigan. Webber graduated from Michigan State University in 1995. He led the NBA in rebounds and ranked second in double-doubles in the 1998-99 season. Webber led the Sacramento Kings in scoring, rebounds, steals, blocks and playing time in the 1999-2000 season. "Webber is a great defensive and team player with a nice jumpshot. He, too, has a long career in the NBA," declares Mathew, another student at Howard Middle School.

Kobe Bryant, Jason Kidd, Chris Webber. All great players from awesome teams. Each of these players played in the final four competition earlier this year. Each player has different talents, different positions, and different playing styles. But they all have the same great attitude and are playing the same great sport. Most importantly, they're all great role models and athletes.
